Putting Our Trust In Young People

RISE champions young people — and the organisations that support them — across the Lancaster District

We bring organisations together and amplify young voices to influence change, working towards a district where every child and young person is heard, happy, inspired and dares to dream.

A District Built Around Young People

The Lancaster District has a long history of collaboration and care for its young people. Today, one in four people here is under the age of 20.

But too many young lives are shaped by inequality.

Did you know…
  • 15% of children live in relative low-income households, and 11% in absolute low-income households.
  • A child born into one of the poorest households can expect to live almost 10 years less than one born into the wealthiest.
  • The cost-of-living crisis and the lasting impact of the pandemic have deepened challenges for children, young people and the services that support them.

Young People at the Core of Everything We Do

We listen first — and act together.

Tackling Food Insecurity

Young people told us they leave home unsure if there will be dinner that night.
We supported 27 organisations to provide meals for 1,954 young people in our most disadvantaged communities.

Empowering Social Action

Young people told us they want to make a difference in their communities.
We supported 188 young people to take part in weekly social action projects — from growing food locally to preparing and serving meals for older residents.

  • 18 young people trained to design and deliver grant programmes.
